“We wanted a
special way to
honor the many
fighting men and
women who are
stationed here
in San Antonio,
along with the
first responders
who always serve
us so bravely
and so well.
The opportunity
to provide free
admission to the
AT&T
Championship was
an easy
decision,” said
tournament
director Colby
Callaway.
“It’s just one
small way we can
say thanks for
all they have
done for us.”
Several of the
Tour players
said coming to a
large military
town like San
Antonio is
inspirational to
see the number
of military men
and women on the
golf course
while they are
playing.
“They are
willing to
sacrifice
everything they
have to make the
world a better
and a safer
place,” said
Champions Tour
rookie Fred
Funk, who is
making his first
appearance in
this year’s AT&T
Championship.
“All of us need
to find ways to
say thanks.
“When I come to
San Antonio, I
always see the
C-130s flying
around and I
know I’m in the
presence of real
heroes.”
Frank Lickliter,
a member of the
PGA Tour, said
most players
enjoy seeing
members of the
military in the
gallery.
“It’s always
inspirational to
me, because I
know what they
go through every
day,” said
Lickliter, who
is actively
involved in the
Wounded Warrior
Project for
injured military
personnel.
“I hope every
fan at the
tournament will
just say thanks
if they see a
solider in the
crowd.”
